The Sing Off: Superstar Medley Night

1 Nov

Opening Number – Halloween Medley

“This is Halloween” – The Nightmare Before Christmas

“Werewolves of London” – Warren Zavon

“Ghostbusters” – Ray Parker Jr.

This was a fantastic opener.

[I starred the best performances of the night!]

* 1) Dartmouth Aires – Queen Medley

“Killer Queen,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and “Somebody to Love”

I love how Sarah grabs Shawn’s arm at the end of “Somebody to Love.”

This was my favorite performance of the night, by far.

“I think that was my favorite performance of this entire competition at this point.” – Sarah Bareilles

“I’m amazed at how you guys nailed it, man.” – Shawn Stockman

“The Most Valuable Player was each one of you. The whole group really worked together really well.” – Ben Folds

* 2) Pentatonix – Britney Spears Medley

“Oops! I Did It Again,” “Toxic,” and “Hold it Against Me”

This medley was awesome. It was a mash up of Britney songs and Britney dance moves! Then, to top it all off, Pentatonix added their own flair to Britney’s style in their mash up of all the songs at the end of their medley! Wow!

“This is a really good show.” – Shawn Stockman

“Kevin, dude, do you have an on and off switch on your throat?” – Shawn Stockman

“The freaking out that you obviously were doing over the week, just pullin’ your hair out trying to get this stuff together, completely paid off. Keep freaking out.” – Ben Folds

“You packed a punch tonight, guys. This was awesome.” Sarah Bareilles

* 3) Vocal Point – Elvis Presley Medley

“Don’t Be Cruel,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love With You,” and “Jailhouse Rock”

This performance was amazing, but what was with the green pants?!

They did get a standing ovation from Shawn Stockman.

“Oh you’re back. That’s good. I love how you had a medley within a medley.” – Ben Folds

“Well done Vocal Point.” – Sarah Bareilles

“As far as I’m concerned, I laughed, I cried, I was forever changed by this performance.” – Shawn Stockman

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
4) Delilah – Alicia Keys Medley
“Fallen,” “A Woman’s Worth,” and “If I Ain’t Got You”
“I would go buy that song tonight – right now.” – Sarah Bareilles discussing Delilah’s version of “Fallen.
“Another smart arrangement by using the right vocalists for the right leads, first and foremost. Hannah, I loved the way you flipped that riff in the beginning. That was ill, that was ill. I was wondering where you were going when you ended, then I was like oooo snap, that was crazy.” – Shawn Stockman
“No band was ever a great band without a star drummer and you’ve got one in your group.” – Ben Folds
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

5) Afro-Blue – Janet Jackson Medley

“What Have You Done for me Lately,” “I Think of You,” and “I Miss You Much”

This performance was okay, but not something that I’ll still remember tomorrow.

“It’s nice how you gave tribute to Janet Jackson, not only with the choreography and the clothes, but the hairstyles.” – Shawn Stockman

“That was a radical arrangement.” – Ben Folds

“You guys have personality for days and this was such a wonderful showcase of that.” – Sarah Bareilles

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6) Urban Method – Rihanna Medley
“What’s My Name,” “Umbrella,” and “Only Girl in the World”
“Really, Really well done. I loved ‘Only Girl in the World’.” – Sarah Bareilles
“It’s really cool that we actually got the chance to highlight the ladies of Urban Method.” – Shawn Stockman
“You did great and I thought the girls did just fine. Nice work.” – Ben Folds
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

7) Yellow Jackets – Billy Joel Medley

“River of Dreams,” “Always a Woman to Me,” and “Uptown Girl”

The Yellow Jackets were okay, but they needed to be AMAZING tonight.

“The start was great with ‘River of Dreams’.” – Ben Folds

“You guys did show another side of you guys with the arrangemen.” – Shawn Stockman

“I heart the Yellow Jackets too.” – Sarah Bareilles

Special Performance by last year’s winners:

 Committed – Chris Brown Medley

“Forever,” “With You,” and “Yeah 3x”
